Delta Gamma Educational Foundation of Topeka

Maybe you’ve heard of it, but do you really know what it is?  The Delta Gamma Educational Foundation of Topeka was established soon after the 1966 tornado destroyed the Alpha Kappa Chapter house.  Topeka resident and Delta Gamma alumna, Ruth Garvey Fink, suggested starting a foundation so we could accept tax deductible contributions from alumnae to help purchase a new house for the Alpha Kappa Chapter.

The Foundation is able to loan money to the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Gamma House Corporation for major projects.  Essentially, the Foundation is like having our own little Delta Gamma bank.

Throughout the past 49 years, the Foundation has garnered more than $100,000 in donations.

Donations to the Foundation are invested and any interest derived from those investments or interest paid by the House Corporation Board on outstanding loans is set aside for collegiate scholarships.  Since 1968, the Foundation has awarded approximately $91,000 in scholarships to collegiate members of  the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Gamma.  Each year at Founders Day, the Foundation announces the names of the scholarship recipients.  Each typically receive a $500 scholarship.

June, 2016 marked the 50th anniversary of the tornado and thus the 50th anniversary of the Delta Gamma Educational Foundation of Topeka.
